About Pompeii

Pompeii is an ancient city, located near Naples in the Campania region of Italy. It is also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is said to be one of the most well-preserved ancient cities in the whole world. The city, along with a majority of its residents and all of its structures, were buried deep under a thick layer of volcanic ash and pumice when the nearby Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. However, it was in the late 16th century when the remains of the city were found, which thereafter gave the world a glimpse into the structures of this city, in addition to a peek into the ancient Roman life and civilisation, which were preserved to a great extent.

After many decades and centuries of excavation work here, Pompeii is one place where you can discover numerous luxurious structures and houses from the times gone by, in addition to age-old frescoes, paintings as well as an extensive collection of other artefacts from the Roman empire.
